Territories divide parts of the map into areas with different rules.
They were originally introduced to give PvE and PvP players room to play differently without turning the entire server into one or the other.
Over time, the system grew.
Some territories have permanent rules. Others can change because of the players who live there.
READ THE FLAG
Where a central territory flag is present, it is the quickest guide to the rules around you.
CHERNARUS FLAG
PvE
Player-versus-player killing is restricted according to the Server Rules.
PIRATE FLAG
PvP
Player conflict is permitted according to the Server Rules.
The flag is the simplest way to understand what kind of territory you are entering. Use the map to confirm the territory boundary.
TERRITORIES CAN CHANGE
Some territories are designed to change.
When enough legitimate player bases are established inside a contestable territory, control can begin to shift. The change is gradual, and other valid bases can counter that influence. If the requirements are no longer met, progress reverses.
That means a group that understands the territory system can change the conditions for everyone around them. Territory conflict is possible because players create it, not because the server requires constant fighting.
WHEN PEOPLE LIVE THERE
An established territory is more than a coloured area on the map.
Where supported by the current implementation, resident territories can gain simple shared infrastructure around the flag pole. This may include:
- a small public supply box;
- paper and pens for messages;
- basic drinks and supplies;
- a PA speaker connected to Last Resort’s broadcast infrastructure.
Players can use the message supplies to leave notes for residents and people passing through.
QUICK ANSWERS
How do I know if a territory is PvE or PvP?
A Chernarus flag marks PvE. A Pirate flag marks PvP. Use the Chernarus territory map to confirm the boundary.
Can a PvP territory become PvE?
Some PvP territories are contestable and can become PvE through sustained qualifying settlement. Permanent and military PvP territories do not change through normal residency mechanics. See Chernarus Territories for the current requirements.
Can a PvE territory become PvP?
Ordinary PvE territories cannot be conquered into PvP through player settlement. A contestable territory that was converted from its natural PvP state can revert toward PvP when the conversion requirements are no longer maintained.
What makes a territory change?
Legitimate resident bases can count toward control inside a contestable territory. The current map rules determine what qualifies and how much influence is required. See Chernarus Territories for the active details.
Does a territory change instantly?
No. Contestable territories use a gradual transition rather than changing immediately. The timing belongs to the current map configuration.
Can other players stop a territory change?
Yes. Valid opposing bases can affect the balance, and progress reverses when the conversion requirements are lost. See Chernarus Territories for the current Chernarus mechanic.
